Fish glue is a high-tack adhesive used in instrument making, furniture restoration, and general woodworking. As a protein-based adhesive, fish glue shares many of the same properties as its hide-glue cousin. However, fish glue is a bit different in that it has a much longer open time and does not require mixing and heating in a glue pot.

Adhesive and mechanical Properties

At room temperatures, fish glue is easily dispensed from a bottle like common (PVA) wood glues. Time to tack is around 1 minute, with open times between 30 minutes to an hour depending on temperature and relative humidity. Full cure times range between 6 to 12 hours. Best of all, fish glue cleans up quickly with just water.

Shelf life is generally around 1 year, which can be extended up to two years with refrigeration when being stored. Our fish glue comes in 8 ounce bottles with both a twist open/close spout and a lined plastic cap for storage.
